2022. november 15.

A BME Villamosmérnöki és Informatikai Karán a Deklaratív programozás tantárgy e félévi utolsó előadását Francesco Cesarini, az Erlang Solutions (https://www.erlang-solutions.com/about/) alapítója és műszaki igazgatója tartja (angolul) november 15-én, kedden. 10.15-12.00 között az IB025-ben (Budapest, XI. Magyar tudósok körútja 2., I. ép. fsz. B025-ös terem).

Előadásának címe: Concurrency for Scalability and Reliability

Abstract:

Functional programming has been influencing mainstream languages for decades, making developers more efficient whilst helping them reduce maintenance costs. As we are faced with a programming model that needs to scale on multi-core architectures and distributed environments, concurrency becomes critical. In these concurrency models, immutability, a key feature of functional programming paradigm, will become even more evident. To quote Simon Peyton Jones, future concurrent languages will be functional; they might not be called functional, but the features will be. In this talk, we explain why Erlang and Elixir are leading the way in this space!

CV

Francesco started his career as an intern at Ericsson’s computer science laboratory, the birthplace of Erlang. He moved on to Ericsson’s Erlang training and consulting arm working on the first release of OTP, applying it to turnkey solutions and flagship telecom applications. In 1999, soon after Erlang was released as open source, he founded Erlang Solutions, who have become the world leaders in Erlang based consulting, contracting, training and systems development. Francesco has worked in major Erlang based projects both within and outside Ericsson, and as Technical Director, has led the development and consulting teams at Erlang Solutions. He is also the co-author of 'Erlang Programming' and 'Designing for Scalability with Erlang/OTP' both published by O'Reilly and lectures at Oxford University.
